- What do we do

How our compact compressed air foam systems work

A Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) is a pumping system in which compressed air is added to a solution to create foam. Compressed air, powered by a compressor or high-pressure cylinder, propels the foam further than aspiration nozzles or standard water nozzles, and produces a more stable foam structure than aspiration systems do.

The use of foam is rapidly increasing by first responders around the world. The foam is recognized for its many advantages over water and has also been proven to be more effective than liquid in areas such as hazardous materials cleanup and decontamination.

In addition, foam has a longer contact time than water, which means fewer applications and less foam concentrate is needed to get the job done. Thus, a small amount of liquid can be used to create a large amount of foam with highly effective action.

Below is a list of some of the benefits of using foam:

  • Foam is lighter than water, resulting in a longer range
  • Foam weighs less in the hose, reducing user strain and fatigue
  • Foam covers the fire by cooling it, covering it and shutting off the oxygen supply
  • Foam forms an insulating barrier against fumes, flames and heat
  • Foam provides a clear visual “map” of treated areas and prevents areas from being missed or duplicated
  • Foam adheres to vertical and horizontal surfaces
